Geriatric Physiotherapy
Strength, balance, mobility and confidence for older adults — with falls prevention at its centre.
What this treatment is, and how it works
Geriatric physiotherapy helps older adults stay strong, steady and independent. Age is not a contraindication to strength training — the dose simply changes, and the gains are often larger than people expect.
Our focus is on the things that protect independence: leg strength, balance, walking capacity, safe transfers, and the confidence to keep moving without fear of falling.
Conditions it commonly addresses
- Falls prevention and fear of falling
- Knee and hip osteoarthritis
- Post-fracture rehabilitation, particularly hip and wrist
- Recovery after joint replacement
- Osteoporosis — safe loading and posture management
- General deconditioning after illness or hospital admission
- Walking aid selection, fitting and training
- Stair, kerb and uneven-ground confidence
