TREATMENT

Balance Training

Progressive balance work for older adults, post-injury recovery and neurological conditions.

OVERVIEW

What this treatment is, and how it works

Balance is a trainable skill at any age. We assess your static and dynamic balance and progressively challenge it in safe, structured stages.

The same approach is used for older adults concerned about falls, athletes returning from ankle injury, and people recovering from neurological conditions.

HELPS WITH

Conditions it commonly addresses

  • Falls prevention in older adults
  • Recurrent ankle sprains and proprioceptive loss
  • Recovery after stroke or other neurological conditions
  • Vertigo-related balance loss (with appropriate screening)
  • Sport-specific agility and landing control
  • Confidence on stairs, uneven ground and crowded spaces
HOW IT WORKS

What we do, step by step

  1. Balance ScreenStandardised tests — single-leg stance, tandem walk, Berg or Tinetti where appropriate.
  2. Risk StratificationWe identify the systems contributing — visual, vestibular, proprioceptive, strength.
  3. Targeted DrillsDrills aimed at the deficient system, not generic balance pads.
  4. ProgressionSurface, vision, dual-task and speed are layered in over weeks.
  5. Real-World PracticeStairs, kerbs, busy environments — we practise the contexts that matter.
WHAT TO EXPECT

In a session

Sessions are safe and supervised. Equipment ranges from a simple line on the floor to wobble boards and dual-task drills.

DURATION

Recommended sessions

Typically 8–12 sessions, with home practice between visits.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Who should avoid this

Acute vertigo without screening, severe lower-limb pain, very high fall-risk patients without appropriate support — we adapt the setting accordingly.
