Gait Training & Functional Evaluation
Walking re-education and functional rehabilitation after injury, surgery or neurological events.
What this treatment is, and how it works
Gait training restores efficient, safe walking after injury, surgery or neurological conditions. Functional evaluation goes further — assessing how you stand, transfer, climb stairs and return to daily tasks.
We combine observational analysis, timed tests and, where appropriate, walking aids selection and training.
Conditions it commonly addresses
- Walking pattern after total knee or hip replacement
- Recovery after fracture, ligament reconstruction or tendon repair
- Stroke and other neurological gait deficits
- Limp from chronic hip, knee or ankle pain
- Walking aid selection — cane, walker or crutches
- Return-to-work functional capacity
What we do, step by step
- ObservationWalking is observed from multiple angles, with and without aids.
- Timed TestingTen-metre walk, Timed Up-and-Go and similar measures to mark a baseline.
- Component WorkHip, knee and ankle components are trained where each is contributing to the deficit.
- Walking PracticeSupervised walking with cueing, mirrors or treadmill where appropriate.
- ProgressionAid is reduced, distance and speed are increased, and uneven ground is added.
In a session
Active sessions with clear measurements. You will see your numbers improve before you feel the change.
Recommended sessions
Highly variable — 6–20 sessions depending on cause and severity.
Who should avoid this
Acute, unstable lower-limb injuries before clearance for weight-bearing.
What you can expect from our team
- Objective timed measures, not just impressions
- Combined gait + balance + strength approach
- Walking aid prescription, not just exercises
