OVERVIEW

What this treatment is, and how it works

Sports physiotherapy is the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries sustained during training, recreation or competitive play. The benchmark is not just 'pain-free' — it is returning you to the demands of your sport, with confidence.

We see runners, gym-goers, racquet-sport players, footballers, cricketers and dancers — both recreational and competitive. Each plan is built around your sport's specific load patterns, not a generic protocol.

HELPS WITH

Conditions it commonly addresses

  • Acute soft-tissue injuries — sprains, strains and contusions
  • Overuse injuries — runner's knee, shin splints, tendinopathies, plantar fasciitis
  • Shoulder injuries in throwing, swimming and racquet sports
  • ACL, meniscal and ankle ligament rehabilitation
  • Hamstring, calf and groin injuries — including high-recurrence cases
  • Pre-season screening and injury-prevention programmes
  • Return-to-play decision-making with objective testing
HOW IT WORKS

What we do, step by step

  1. Sport-Specific AssessmentWe map the injury alongside the demands of your sport — sprint, jump, throw, change of direction.
  2. Acute CarePain and swelling are managed first — manual therapy, electrotherapy and taping where indicated.
  3. Loading ProgrammeProgressive strength and tissue-capacity work, calibrated to the stage of healing.
  4. Sport ReintroductionDrill-by-drill return — straight running, change of direction, contact, full training, match.
  5. Return-to-Play TestingObjective hop, strength and agility tests before clearance — not just how you feel.
WHAT TO EXPECT

In a session

Sessions are active and effortful. Tape, braces and protective supports are used during return-to-play. Expect homework — the load between sessions is what builds tissue capacity.

DURATION

Recommended sessions

Typically 6–16 sessions over 6–14 weeks, depending on the injury and the level of sport. Pre-season screening is usually 1–2 visits.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Who should avoid this

Acute, undiagnosed bony injury — imaging is arranged first. Cardiac symptoms during exercise — we refer back to your physician.
